Virtual Essay

I admire the work of Robert and André Kertesz. Both of the photographers have done a great work in their life. The pictures they shoot not only show the beauty but there is a deep message in them.  Their photographers explain the original message in them. The reason why i choose these photographers below is because they have a great connection which leads to a valuable experience to me. There are many reflections that reflect their pictures deeply (Beauty, anger, surprise, hope, happiness are the few things that attracts one automatically. The work done by both of them have been shown in many countries like the Fraenkel gallery in san Francisco and the Cuba gallery. Robert work is known for the personal human struggle, personal exploration about the landscaper similarly André pictures were known for the personal exploration and originality.  In addition the work done by them can be found in New York, France Hungary, San Francisco.

Picture 1(a)

Picture 1(b)

The amazing photographs showing beauty. That captures one interest in them immediately with deep thoughts about the real beauty of the nature. The first picture photographed by Robert Adams that tells about the leaves on the trees appear perforated, the precise cause of which is unknown. The artist likens the particular pattern of erosion on each leaf to hieroglyphics, reading in them a unique “calligraphy of disaster. And the second picture that is the reality of calligraphy of disaster.

Picture 2(a)

Picture 2(b)

This inimitable style gives the artist their own identity. Picture second (a) photographed by Robert Adams that gives real feeling of nature. And the second (b) gives the same feeling of nature.  Picture second (b) is an influence of picture second (a) as they both have the reflection of the cloud in the water and the alone boat in the sea.

Picture 3(a)

Picture 3(b)

The picture above by André kertesz is most simple pictures ever. Both shows the same thing but with the different effects on them. Picture third (a) with a fork on a plate. Secondly, the other picture third (b) that shows the reflection of the fork on the table. Kertesz works are known for their simplicity everything around us can be a piece of art.

Picture 4(a)

Picture 4(b)

The picture forth (a) photography of western landscapes always includes evidence of the heavy hand of man and many would not call it "beautiful." Robert says that Nevertheless, his statement about beauty is very compelling and highlights the ambiguity associated with the word itself. Similarly the second picture tells about the same western landscape with the beautiful surrounding of people having fun in the water.

Picture 5(a)
Picture5(b)

There are different ways of capturing the pictures that gives the feeling about them. For example we have in picture fifth (a) a women lying on the ground looking at the sky and thinking about something. Which is exactly can be seen in the second picture that explains the same message about it. The pictures usually have the same meaning in them that makes one understand deeply.

Photo by Michael Appleton, USA New York daily news
Photo journal part 2
The main differences and similarities
Press photography, is form of photography used to deliver news to the public. The role of photojournalist is to display the news and the facts about reality. On the other hand the art photography is defines as the “photography that is done as fine art done to express the artist perceptions and emotions that can be share with others.

Therefore the two photographs style showing the different main purposes and subjects. The press photography that captures the true pictures moments that are happening around the world.
The art photography that captures the artist feelings and emotions, that is something in real world.

Art Photographs

The Photograph taken by C.Hillyard 2008

The two photographs styles are very different however there are some similarities between the two press and art photography that exists. The purposes of the images are different but both are trying to tell convey their messages.

2)  Is it ethical and acceptable to alter art photographs? Why? Why not?
The Two art photographs I posted have definitely altered by artists. But it is very acceptable and true that their purpose is not showing the truth. Moreover they are trying to explain their inner feelings and aesthetic sense. Thus, if artist think altering is required for showing what they want to express, there is no barrier that they can’t do it.

3)  Is it ethical and acceptable to alter press photographs? why? why not?
The Press Photography case, ( journalist) codes of ethics followed by the most mainstream news media around the globe that are very strict and do not allow changes that might have an impact on the photo composition. It is because if they alter the press photographs, those photos will loose realistic which is the core meaning of press photo: as well as photos will loose their credibility.

Photo Manipulation...

The method of photography is called light effects, blur, and tilt picture effect. The picture I took at the shopping centre when I first came to Canada. The technique of photography is a standing and a moving photography. The camera has to be positioned in a down effect so the picture can be taken easily in a natural moving manner. I changed the picture in a slightly blur and the lens effects has been given to make it more attractive and also the movement of image has done by tilting it to show the effect in a opposite direction. Multiple exposures are an effective technique for creative photography. It enables you to introduce special effects. With this technique you can enhance the picture on special effects.
To take the picture control your camera should be positioned in a proper manner and needed to expose the camera in a proper position so that the right amount of light can enter the lens.

The next image I took in a garden with lots of flowers in the background. The image is showing the sitting effect. The method of clicking this picture was in a straight position so that the whole picture can be taken in a natural way. It  made clear with the help of shadow of the trees so that the light rays not affect the lens and give the bad effect. In this photo you can see the picture i made is bit darker and has been given contrast to make it more effective and look clear. Also including the photo frame that surround the picture and to make it little more clear with the help of skin clear effect to hide the dark small spots from the picture and to make it look more attracting picture. And the next image tells more about the old picture effect with the black & white color in it with all the black background hiding the color of purple flowers and the green leaves effect.  For more natural effect we need to needed to set the exposure or light settings in a specific way so that the right amount of light would enter the lenses, otherwise the excess light would create an overexposure effect to the photograph inhibiting the photographer to achieve multiple exposure effects. With the advance in technology now, digital post processing techniques enables the photographer to explore and be creative with their photographs and designs.

Potraits In The Early Days And Today..

1. What are the main differences and similarities between portraits in the early days of photography and portraits today?

The early day’s portraits were made basically for the higher status people. Due to the high cost not everyone can have their portraits. The early days pictures were taken in black and white they were not made of the colourful portraits nowadays. The early portraits were mostly made for the rich and powerful. Over the time it becomes more powerful between the middle class patrons to commission portraits of their families and colleagues. Today the portrait can be discovered by anyone in the family with the help of many new photographers and picture maker. Photography was probably an inevitable invention – the surprise was that it took so long for it to develop, especially given that the scientific principles that are responsible for it – physical principles such as our understanding of lens and optics and chemical processes that are required to affix permanent images, have actually been known for long before the invention of the first photograph.
2. Who was the photographer and who was the subject of photographs in the past and today?

In the early days there were not much photographers.  In 1839, Robert Cornelius, a Dutch chemist who immigrated to Philadelphia, took a daguerreotype portrait of himself outside of his family’s store and made history he made the world’s first human photograph!  This self-portrait of Robert Cornelius is one of the first photographs of a human to be produced.
Robert Cornelius he began working for his father specializing in silver plating and metal polishing. He became so well renowned for his work, that shortly after, Cornelius was approached by Joseph Saxton to create a silver plate for his daguerreotype of Central High School in Philadelphia. It was this meeting that sparked Cornelius' interest in photography.

3. What was the impact of technology on the portraits in the past and today?

As we all know the impact of photography in this century. Photography is truly the most pervasive. Here the effect that photography has had on 20th century society will be discussed in four distinct areas: amateur photography (making everyone a photographer), advertising photography (creating desire in the public), journalistic/editorial photography (informing and entertaining the public), and documentary photography (recording the lives of real groups of people).

To imagine a social world before photography, we would have to think of a world without picture IDs; without portraits of ordinary people, one without pictures as souvenirs of travel; one without celebrity pictures; one without advertising photographs and one in which the great masses of people had no way to visually document the important events of their lives.

The technology of photography is part chemical, part optical, and dates from 1839. Soon after its simultaneous invention by William Henry Fox Talbot in England and Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre in France, photography was used to document foreign places of interest such as India, the Holy Land, and the American West. It was also used for portraits with photographs taken of kings, statesman, and theatre or literary personalities.
